Overview: Introduction to Cancer

Cancer causes uncontrolled cell division in the body that leads to tumour development. In India, millions of people are fighting & living with cancer. Unfortunately, such cancer cases are rising every day.
In normal circumstances, a balance between cell growth & cell death is maintained. But, in the case of cancer, this balance is disrupted and cancer cells grow uncontrollably leading to tumour formation. Cancer cells weaken or switch off the immune system of the body by emitting some off signals, leading to their growth. Cancer cells also spread through lymph nodes and affect nearby area or organs of the body too.

Benign & Metastatic Cancer

Cancer can be either benign or metastatic. A benign tumour is less dangerous as it is localized and does not spread throughout the body. While on the other hand, malignant tumours grow quickly and spread to other parts of the body. This process is called metastasis.

What are the early signs of cancer?

Signs and symptoms of cancer can be different depending on the part of the body affected.

However, some general symptoms of cancer include:

  • Changes in bowel or bladder habits
  • Persistent indigestion, muscle or joint pain, fever or night sweat
  • Persistent cough
  • Fatigue
  • Unusual weight changes
  • Trouble breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Unexplained bleeding or bruising
  • Risk Factors

The actual cause of cancer is yet unknown but there are certain triggers which can be easily prevented too.

General risk factors for cancer include:

  • Smoking cigarette
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Excess body weight
  • Inactive lifestyle
  • Unhealthy eating habits

All these factors are preventable but there are other various factors that are uncontrollable such as age or genetic history.

How many types of cancer are there?

In India, the most common types of cancers found are breast cancer, lung cancer and prostate cancer. As mentioned earlier, smoking & alcohol increases the risk of many types of cancer.
In India, the following types of tumours are found:

  • Bladder
  • Colon and rectal
  • Endometrial
  • Kidney
  • Liver
  • Pancreatic
  • Thyroid

Usually, cancer is usually classified by the location of the tumour in the body and the tissues that it forms in. Cancerous cells can spread to other parts of the body which is called metastasis cancer. It is possible for a person to have more than one type of cancer at a time.

Why early cancer detection test is important?

Recognising the early signs of cancer and taking regular cancer screening tests increases the chances of early diagnosis. Early signs of cancer include lumps, persistent indigestion, chronic hoarseness and abnormal bleeding. Early diagnosis has a greater impact on the disease. Early diagnosis increases the chances of a successful treatment and survival rate. Particularly in the cases of breast, cervix, mouth, larynx, colon and rectum cancer, early cancer detection test increases the chances of successful treatment.

HMZ Laboratories, being a unique alliance between Hero Cycles, Millennium cancer center & Zyagnum AG is highly committed to the cause of cancer elimination through early detection & screenings. They are the most enthusiastic & curious team who are not leaving any stones unturned in making new developments and discoveries in cancer research. One such recent advancement made by them is an innovative cancer diagnosis method which detects solid tumours using a ‘simple blood test’. The test makes use of a unique EDIM technology for accurate detection or diagnosis.

The EDIM technology is regarded as a ‘Biological Biopsy’ as it helps to examine the macrophages in the bloodstream itself. What makes the technique revolutionary is the quick & effective detection of solid tumours, even at stage 0.
